Barbara C. Steele

SYRACUSE – Barbara C. Steele, 85, passed away Sunday, June 4, 2017 at her home in Syracuse, where she was a life long resident.

She was born on February 25, 1932 the daughter of Lacey and LaVora Hansen Criddle in Syracuse, Utah.  Barbara graduated from Davis High School.

Barbara married Verle D. Barber on April 15, 1949.  Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.  He passed away on April 30, 1968.  She married Vern Edward Steele on October 29, 1970 in Elko, Nevada.  He passed away on September 16, 1995.

She worked at various places throughout her life, RC Willey’s, Stoker’s Nursery, Anchorage Market, FRAM and Consolidated Draperies.

Barbara was a member of the LDS Church.  She loved quilting and her doll collection.

Surviving are her sons, Chris (Chris) Barber, Kevin (Wendy) Barber, daughters, Vonnie (Tom) Henk, Barbara Barber, step daughters, Tami Sherwood, Lauri (Russell) Wright, Sharyn (Brad) Harmon, Tina Cotton, 14 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, sister, Joyce Albiston, brothers, Clint (Michelle) Criddle, Brent (Tammy) Criddle, step-sister, LeDell (Jay) Gresham, step-brother, Robert Davis and special granddaughter, Jodi Owen.

Barbara was preceded in death by husbands, Verle Barber, Vern Steele, sons, Tommy Barber, Farrell Barber and great-granddaughter, Bailey Rupe.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 8, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Syracuse 2nd Ward Chapel, 2228 S. 1660 W., Syracuse. Friends may visit family Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.  Interment, Syracuse City Cemetery.
