Barbara Ann Nielsen Stratford

Barbara Ann Nielsen Stratford, 79, died Saturday, January 11, 2014 in Bountiful, Utah.

She was born April 28, 1934 in Providence, Utah, the youngest of eight children, to Marriner Wilford and Margaret Rachel Gessel Nielsen.  She was raised in Providence and graduated from South Cache High School in 1952.  She attended Thomas D. Dee School of Nursing in Ogden, Utah where she received her Registered Nurse training.  She graduated in 1955 with the last graduating class of the program.

She married Haines Donald Stratford on February 26, 1954 in the Logan LDS Temple.

She worked as a Registered Nurse for 40 years and as Director of Nurses at several healthcare facilities in Davis and Weber Counties.   She was a compassionate caregiver and spent much of her career working with the elderly.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in the Primary and Relief Society in her younger years.  She was a loving wife and mother. Her six children are grateful for her life of devotion to them.

Barbara is survived by her husband Haines, Layton; six children and their spouses, Wade (Dan) and Debbie Stratford, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia; Dave and Valerie Stratford, Bountiful; Lori and Dal Taylor, Spanish Fork; Sally and Gordon Nielson, Pocatello, ID; Tamara and Kelly Palmer, Clinton; Kate and Scott Whitesides, Layton; 17 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and sister Mary Boudrero, Logan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, six siblings, Gessel, David, Lloyd and Reed Nielsen, Coral Unsworth and Lois Crook.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 16, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.  Friends may visit family Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at North Canyon Care Center in Bountiful for the loving care they gave Barbara.
