Barry John Heim
1956 – 2009
Our loving father, grandfather, brother, friend, and husband, Barry John Heim, passed away unexpectedly on February 27, 2009 at the young age of 53.
Barry was born on February 8, 1956 in Hagerstown, Maryland to Bill and Bess Heim. He grew up in Binghamton, New York before joining the US Navy in 1982 as an enlisted recruit. Barry later went on to attend the University of Arizona and receive an officer commission in 1988. While attending the wedding for one of his brothers, he met the love of his life Robin. They were married March 12, 1983 in Kennewick, Washington. They spent the next 25 years traveling, raising their two children, Ashley and Kellen, and enjoying the fun things life had to offer. After Barry retired from the Navy in 2003, he focused on is greatest passions, golf, University of Arizona basketball, University of Utah football, and most of all his family. He was thrilled with the birth of his first grandchild, Eden, and he spent many hours doting on her. Barry was always the life of the party and anyone who knew him would say he was a genuine and caring person who just wanted to help. He encouraged and inspired other to be the best they could be.
Barry is survived by his wife Robin, son Kellen, daughter Ashley, son-in-law David, granddaughter, Eden, his father Bill, siblings Bill, Brad, Bruce and Bonnie, father-in-law, Fredrick Bartsch , brother-in-law, Ricky Bartsch, cousin, Heidi, Aunt Sharon, longtime friend, Jeanine Kirpes and friends too numerous to list.
Barry is preceded in death by his mother Bess Heim, mother-in-law, Dorothy Bartsch and Uncle Robert Heim.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends and family may call Saturday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
There will be a celebration of Barry’s life at his family’s home in Layton following the services.
