SYRACUSE - Our beloved father, Barry Marvin Mervis, son of Jack and Sylvia Mervis, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 30, 2010 following a brief illness, at the age of 59. He was born January 12, 1951 in Los Angeles, California.

The family moved to Orem in 1960. Barry attended Dixie College where he was on the tennis team, and also had a radio show. He continued his studies at Utah State University and graduated with a Bachelor''s Degree. While at college he married Cindy Cartwright in 1977. Barry returned to school later in life and graduated from Weber State University with a Bachelor''s Degree in Social Work.

Barry enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved animals, especially his four dogs. He was a very giving person, making sure that others were taken care of and had their needs met first. Barry spent a lifetime working with at-risk youth. He loved being able to help them turn their lives around.

Barry is survived by his children, Abe, Syracuse, UT; Joe, Las Vegas,, NV; Sylvia (Ben Rubin), Washington, DC; his brother Ron (Annie) and nephews Matthew and Dylan, Salt Lake City, UT; and aunts Charlotte (Paul) Fish and Florence, San Francisco, CA. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Cindy and his parents, Jack and Sylvia.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, May 4, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Road. Cremation under the direction of Lindquist''s Crematory.
