B. Darlene Blackburn Layton Byington
January 9, 1933 ~ February 16, 2014
Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, Darlene Byington, 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, February 16, 2014. She was born to Oriel Henry and Katie Bertha Fife Blackburn on January 9, 1933 in Ogden, Utah. She graduated from Ogden High School.
Darlene married Darrell Rulon Layton in Ogden in April of 1951. They later divorced. She married Leonard Steven Byington in February of 1990. Leonard passed away in March of 2013.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many callings.
Darlene was a very involved with her family. She loved watching their sporting events. She also loved watching the Utah Jazz and Ogden Raptors. She enjoyed making crafts, clocks, ceramics, and Christmas decorations. She was known as a mother to everyone that knew her.
Darlene is survived by her sons, Steve (Diane) Layton, Scott (Candy deceased) Layton, Randy Layton, Russell (Karen) Layton, Douglas (Launi) Layton, and Richard (Stacie) Layton; daughters, Kathy Hoggan, Linda (Ron) Thornton, Sharon (Dane) Dansie, and Mary (Wesley) Snow; 42 grandchildren, 72 great-grandchildren with three on the way; stepchildren, Linda Gardner, Fay (John) Dvorak, Jay Byington; many step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Dale (Joyce) Blackburn and Thair “Bud” Blackburn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard; her parents, two sisters, three brothers, one great-grandchild, and three stepchildren, two stepdaughters-in-law and two step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
