Beatrice C. Kelley

Beatrice C. Kelley 1916 ~ 2009 WASHINGTON TERRACE - Beatrice Christensen Kelley passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2009 surrounded by her family at Ogden Regional Medical Center from complications of pneumonia. Bea was born in Pocatello, Idaho on March 4, 1916, a daughter of Andrew E. and Ada B. Barnes Christensen. The family later moved to Lincoln and then settled in Saint Anthony, Idaho. Bea had many fond memories of growing up in Saint Anthony. She recounted watching the “Yellowstone Flyer” train rumble through town and imagining where the passengers all came from. Bea loved to dance and had danced for the June General Conference at the University of Utah. She also told of her dancing at the local theater while a friend played the piano. She loved when the family would travel up to Warm Springs to have a picnic. After graduation she moved to Southern California and stayed with her brother Dean. There she met Raymond Kelley, also from Burley, Idaho, and they married on June 22, 1942 in the Logan LDS Temple. They stayed in California for awhile and had their first son, Terry Kelley. The family soon moved to Burley, Idaho to take over Ray’s parents farm. It was there that they were blessed with another son, Lynn Kelley and then a daughter, Marla Kelley. The family later moved to Garland, Utah, then Plain City, and finally to Washington Terrace. Ray preceded her in death on March 16, 1997. Bea was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all of her life and held many church callings. Her favorite was being a dance director. This required her to travel all over the area north and west of Brigham City. Bea loved oil painting and painted many pictures for family and friends. She was also an active member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She loved to travel in their motor home. Her favorite trip was with Ray, daughter Marla, and her sister Marla, to Nauvoo, Illinois. She retired from Thiokol as a secretary. Surviving are her son, Terry (Ella) Kelley, Taylor; daughter, Marla Kelley (Greg) Brubaker, Layton; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her brother, Stanley Christensen, Temecula, CA; and her sister, Marla Hymus, Rexburg, ID. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, a son, Lynn Kelley, brothers, Marvin Christensen, Dean Christensen, John Christensen and Grant Christensen, and her sisters, Vernonna Bird, Bernice Christensen (Bea’s twin), and Marjorie Ricks. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Washington Terrace 8th Ward Chapel, 350 West 5100 South. Friends may call at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday at the Ward Chapel 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. Send condolences to the family at: www.lindquistmortuary.com
