Surrounded by family, Beatrice Cox passed away peacefully on June 27, 2021. Beatrice, known as “Atie”, by most who knew her, was born to John Meyer Jr. and Caroline Margarete Reinke on August 24, 1928. They lived in the small German community of “Clover”, in Buhl, Idaho. She was the 9th of 10 children. Her parents and siblings all preceded her in death.
On November 9, 1948, Atie married Dean Brady Cox at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Buhl. During the first 10 years of their life together, Dean and Atie lived in various locations in and around Twin Falls County, in southern Idaho. Atie worked tirelessly taking care of her 5 young children, helping Dean on the farm, and preparing meals for the workers during harvest season. She even found time to sew clothing for the family and make delicious homemade pies.
Although she loved the Lutheran faith she grew up with, Atie felt it was important that one faith united their family, so on January 30, 1958, she was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, along with her oldest son, Gregory. The family was later sealed together in the Los Angeles California Temple.
In the summer of 1959, the little Cox family moved from Idaho to Orange County, California. Atie enjoyed the beach and mild weather for almost 18 years, making wonderful memories with family and friends, but that location would not last forever.
Another move came in 1977 when Dean and Atie retired to Apple Valley, in the Mojave Desert. Once again, Atie found beauty in nature, and made lots of new friends over the next 40 years. The highlight of this stage in her life was serving a church mission with Dean in the Islands of Tonga. They also enjoyed serving in the Los Angeles Temple for approximately 10 years, making even more cherished memories there.
Atie is survived by her five children: Gregory (Carole) of Murrieta, CA, Diane (Carl) Mortensen of Hurricane, UT, Brent (Yvonne) of North Ogden, UT, Sheri Burke of Apple Valley, CA, and Julie (Glen) Clark of Ogden, UT. She has 26 grandchildren, 66 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, beloved aunt to countless nieces and nephews, and friend to almost everyone she met.
Funeral Services will be held in the LDS Chapel at 1401 Country Hills Dr., Ogden, UT on July 3, 2021, at 12:00 noon. Friends may visit with family from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the church.
She will be laid to rest with her beloved Dean at 1:00 pm on July 29th in the Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd., Riverside, CA 92518.
