Becky Jean Alexander

January 5, 1974 - March 21, 2017

There is a saying about “burning the candle at both ends.” It’s meant to be a euphemism about how taking on too much leads to burning out quickly. Leave it to Becky to find even more than two ends on a candle. She packed a lot of life into her short 43 years on earth.

She became a mother at a very young age, a challenge which she took on with immense grace and passion. She was a fiercely attentive, compassionate mother who devoted her entire life to raising her children. There were plenty of times where things were rough and she was terrified of making a wrong decision. But you would never know it. Each of her children can attest to her strength and unwillingness to give up on them.

On June 25, 1995, at the age of 21, she married the love of her life, Gary Alexander.  They had 21 years of laughs, arguments, passion, and more importantly, friendship. Through the early years of their relationship, Becky worked and took care of the kids while Gary worked out of town. When Becky got unexpectedly sick two years ago, Gary stood by her side, unwavering, until the very end. They completed each other and the world is not likely to see a love like theirs again.

Becky leaves behind a strong legacy of compassion, commitment, and pride. Through her actions in the world, she taught everyone she came into contact with to be patient and understanding, no matter the circumstances. She taught her children to follow their passions and that she would always be with them if they fell on their journey. She was stern when she    needed to be, but would laugh and joke with you after chewing you out. She was completely, unabashedly, unapologetically herself and didn’t care what others thought of her. And most important of all, she taught the world that 99% of expressing your love for someone is just showing up. Whether it was to save the day or to help celebrate an achievement, Becky was always there for the ones she loved. She was an absolute superhero.

Becky is survived by her husband, Gary; two sons, Jackson Carter and Jordan Alexander; daughter, Lyndsey Alexander; Lyndsey’s boyfriend, Eugenio Mesa; parents, Monte and Rhea Whitt; her brother and sister-in-law, Jake and Penny Carter; sister, Tracy Carter; grandfather, Clark Abegglen; mother-in-law, Debbie Alexander; and a large extended family of in-laws, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. All of whom she loved very deeply. Becky would be beside herself if her babies (dogs), Gunner and Bailey, weren’t included. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Buck and Mary Carter; maternal grandmother, Arva Abegglen; father, Patrick Carter; father-in-law, Parley Alexander; and two cousins, Derek Workman and Kelly Carter.

A Celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.  Friends may visit with family on Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the mortuary.
