Bendt Winget Johnson

1936 – 2017

Bendt says “HILAY” to his Ephraim buddies

Our loving husband, father, grandfather and best friend, Bendt Winget Johnson, age 80, passed peacefully on April 28, 2017 at his home in Layton.  Bendt will join the waiting arms of his Heavenly Father, friends and loving parents Evan and Wanda.  Our hearts are broken but realize a happy reunion is taking place.

Bendt was born in Ephraim, Utah, July 29, 1936 to Evan and Wanda Winget Johnson.  He married Sandra Powers in 1961, later divorced.  In 1997 he married Leigh (Lela) Anderson, his childhood friend.  They were happily married and have lived, laughed and loved for the past 20 years.

Bendt excelled in both football and basketball.  He had a great love for the outdoors, boating, and fishing where many cherished memories were made with his friends and family.

Bendt loved people and people loved him; this was evident in his career where he made many lifelong friendships.

Bendt graduated from Snow College and Utah State University.  Among other entrepreneurial adventures, he owned and operated B.J.’s Family Restaurant in Richfield for many years.  He founded ‘Grounds for Coffee’, franchising 76 stores throughout the United States.  He later sold health insurance and became a member of the “Million Dollar Roundtable” as one of the top producers in the nation.

During his retirement years Bendt worked at Sams Wholesale Groceries and joked and laughed with many new friends.

Bendt is survived by his wife Leigh, four sons, Mark, Stan, Eric and Cleve, two daughters, Kellie and Jennifer.  He has five grandsons, three granddaughters and two sisters  Gayle (Dave) Mellor and Fern (Terry) Smith.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Evan and Wanda.

The family expresses extreme gratitude to Jason and his staff at Access Home Care and the many angel friends coming to visit Bendt during his final days. Thanks for your concern, sweet love, empathy, and kindness. It will never be forgotten.

Friends, family and acquaintancs are invited to attend a memorial honoring Bendt on May 6, 2017 at  2:00 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd.  Friends may visit with family  from 1 to 1:45 p.m. prior to the memorial.
