OGDEN a€" Benjamin Berry Pierce, 76, died Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at his home from complications of a stroke he suffered in March of 2009.

He was born January 14, 1933 in Wichita, Kansas, to Edwin Paul and Mary June Berry Pierce.

Ben met Carla Maurine Hone in 1956 and they were married in June of 1957. She was the love of his life. He was a very loving and supportive husband and father.

He served his country with the U.S. Navy for four years and was a veteran of the Korean War.

Ben served as an Ogden City, Weber County, and federal firefighter until his retirement in 1981. He was also a general contractor who built beautiful and unique custom homes. He was very talented in many ways.

After retirement, Ben and Maurine traveled together across most of the U.S. and Canada. Ben loved traveling and the outdoors. He also enjoyed golf and gardening. He loved poker and played it regularly at home and in Las Vegas with family and friends. Ben had a wonderful sense of humor and always made people laugh.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Maurine Hone Pierce; three children, Donald Pierce, Judy Pierce (Monte) Criddle, Berry (Sally) Pierce, five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one brother, Ken Pierce.

Preceding Ben in death were his parents and one brother, Ed Paul Pierce.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.

A celebration of life will be held immediately following the graveside service at the home of Berry and Sally Pierce, 150 Taylor Avenue, Ogden, UT.
