Bernard Ardene Hinton

“A great man” all say of Dene, who left us May 22, 2014.  He led an exemplary life and was loved and appreciated by so many.  We will miss his great love.

Bernard Ardene “Dene” Hinton was born August 9, 1925 to Bernard and Isabel Hinton in Hurricane, Utah.  He married Lillian Schipper August 29, 1952 in the Salt Lake Temple.

His early years were happy, helping Dad on the fruit farm, jumping in the canal to get off the “peach fuzz” and playing basketball with his brothers using a basket on the Mulberry tree.  He always had a great love for the Red Rock  Country and Zions.

He entered the US Army Infantry in World War II and fought in the Philippine Islands where he earned the Bronze Star for unusual bravery. Dene attended the Branch Agriculture College and earned an Engineering degree at the University of Utah.  He retired from Amoco Oil Company as Superintendent of Engineering.

His service to his LDS Church was in every way, from teaching wee ones to Stake and Bishop offices, and it culminated in missions to Temple Square and the Polynesian Cultural Center in Laie, Hawaii.

His greatest love was his family, his wife, Lillian and children David (Jody), Kate, Kerry (Jerry), Stephen (Stacy) and Douglas and grandchildren Aneleisa, Makenzie, Aniston and Emily.  His thoughts were always for their welfare, from throwing the baseball in the backyard, to his pride and support in their great accomplishment through life.

We children knew Dad as one who never had anything but a kind word for everyone, gave unconditional love, he was completely honest with the highest integrity and mostly because he was a gracious man.

Friends and relatives please visit with our family at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. from 6-8 pm on Friday May 30, 2014.  The family will celebrate his life privately at a later time.
