Bernice Saunders Clark Brown
April 2, 1922 ~ June 27, 2014
Our loving mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and friend, Bernice Saunders Clark Brown, 92, was called home to her loving Heavenly Father on Friday, June 27, 2014. She was born on April 2, 1922 to Earl and Wilhelmina "Minnie" Saunders in Ogden, Utah. She is the third of five children. Bernice enjoyed telling stories about how she loved growing up in Collinston and how they "walked through snow so deep it was over the top of the fence posts to go to school." She graduated from Bear River High School in 1940.
After graduating, she married the love of her life, Keith Lyman Clark, on August 10, 1941. They were sealed together for time and all eternity on August 19, 1980 in the Ogden LDS Temple. Together they lovingly raised four children in Clearfield. Bernice and Keith loved the outdoors and would take their children camping and fishing. They were very social and had several friends that would come over to play cards and associate together. Bernice and Keith loved to dance and were instructors for a square dancing group for many years. In addition to dancing Bernice was an accomplished artist in oil painting. Over the years she painted many beautiful paintings some of which she sold to admirers. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and knitting and made the granddaughters beautiful crocheted dolls. Bernice loved to sing to the grandkids and to recite poetry. One of her most favorite songs she would sing was a Swedish song that her grandmother had taught her - Rida, rida, ranka. She loved to laugh and had a contagious sense of humor. She had a keen awareness of finding the beauty in nature and would point it out to all those around her.
Bernice took pride in her appearance and would not leave her room without her hair neat and beautiful, her make-up done to perfection, and her jewelry on. Even during her last hospital stay she would wear her necklace with her hospital gown. Once when out to dinner with her son, the waitress said to her, "I hope I look as beautiful as you when I am your age." She was very impressed with how young she looked.
After Keith's passing on June 23, 1993, she filled her new single life with adventures and traveling with her dear friend Pauline. She met her second husband, Willard Brown, while traveling. They were married on December 6, 1996 in the Ogden LDS Temple. They loved being 'Snow Birds' and would travel to Arizona every winter. Willard passed away on July 5, 2006.
For the past 8 1/2 years she has resided at Chancellor Gardens of Clearfield where she made many new and close friends.
Bernice is survived by her sister, Shirlene Jones; two daughters and one son, KayLene Clayton (fiance', Fred Brown), Rodney (Lori) Clark, and DeAnn (Louis) Barton; 12 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She would always say - "And I'm getting grander all the time!"
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands, Keith and Willard; her son, Danny; brothers, Theron and Blaine, and sister, Ardis.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, July 7, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
