Bernice Carter FREDERICKSBURG, Virginia - Bernice Carter, died Tuesday, July 15, 2008, in Virginia following a short illness. Born December 25, 1921, she grew up and lived most of her life in Ogden, Utah. On May 8, 1942, she married Wallace Ray Carter of Huntsville in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were married for 59 years. Wallace preceded her in death in 2001. Bernice had a very active life. In addition to raising four children, she worked for many years in various management positions at Internal Revenue Service in Ogden, Utah. She worked for the Department of the Navy in Manteca, California. In 1981, she retired from the Federal Civil Service. Following her retirement, she worked at Nordstrom for nine years. In 2007, she moved to Virginia to be closer to her daughters. Bernice was very active in the LDS Church. She taught Primary for many years and served as a member of the Primary Stake Board, She was a member of the Ogden 42nd Ward, Ogden 21st Ward and most recently the Lorin Farr 3rd Ward. Bernice enjoyed sewing, gardening, traveling and visiting with friends. She did volunteer work for the Humane Society. She was an exemplary seamstress and tailor. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her beloved husband Wallace. Surviving are her children, Suzanne Brown and husband Bruce O. Brown of Stafford, VA; Laurie Cournia and husband Jason Cournia of King George, VA; Connie Gross and husband Elmer Gross of Ogden, UT; Gary Carter of Tupelo, MS; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Saturday, July 19th at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road. Friends may call at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday 10 to 10:45 a.m. Send condolences to the family at: www.lindquistmortuary.com
