Bernice Sullivan Earl

LAYTON a€" Bernice completed her work in mortality and returned to her Heavenly Father on July 20, 2009 in the home she was born in at the age of 78 after a courageous four-year battle with cancer.

She was born on March 23, 1931 in Layton, Utah to Ida Alder Robins and Daniel Arthur Sullivan. She attended Davis High School where she was president of Pro-Scola and met the love of her life Rodney Edwin Earl. She married her high school sweetheart on May 19, 1950. They lived in Farmington, Utah for 2-1/2 years before moving back to Layton to help care for her mother. They purchased her family home where they raised their five children. They were sealed as a family on June 25, 1970 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Bernice was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had a strong and abiding testimony of the gospel. She served as a Relief Society President and in many other positions in the church. She was a faithful visiting teacher for 58 years.

Bernice was a professional quilter and you felt truly loved if you received a quilt from her. She crocheted dogs and loomed hundreds of hats which she donated to homeless shelters and the Humanitarian Center. She loved working outside in her yard. She was a faithful supporter of her children and grandchildren in sports, music and any activity they were involved in. You could always count on her being there.

She is survived by her loving husband Rodney (Layton), children: Patricia (Ray) Zaugg, Syracuse, UT; Reid (Charmalee) Earl, Clinton, UT; Linda Cay Earl, Centennial Park, AZ; Curtis Earl and Christine Earl, Layton, UT; 25 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; sisters Maurine Morley, Las Vegas, NV and Louise (Stanley) Mann, South Jordan. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Eugene, in-laws, Ed and Marva Earl, brother-in-laws Perry Morley, Brent Earl, Louis Cook and three great-grandchildren: Aiden, Braxton and Caleb Wall.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 23, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Park Street LDS Chapel, 275 Park Street (which she helped build). Friends and family may call Wednesday, July 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Road and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.

A special thank you to all the doctors, nurses and staff of the Huntsman Cancer Center who lovingly took care of her. Also for angels Andrea, Stephanie and Debbie of Hospice of Utah. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Huntsman Cancer Center, Salt Lake City, Utah.
