Bernice Kofoed Greenwood

Bernice Kofoed Greenwood, age 98, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born to Charles Alvin and Sarah Williams Kofoed on December 11, 1916 in Weston, Idaho. She graduated from Weston High School and attended Utah State University. She moved to Salt Lake City and worked as a nanny where she met the love of her life, Barnard Hartley “B.H.” Greenwood. They were married on October 12, 1935. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple. They lived in Salt Lake City, Logan, and Phoenix, AZ. They moved to Ogden in 1940.
She worked at various jobs, school lunch, Hill Air Force Base, and owner and operator of the Busy Bee Car Wash. She worked as an attendance clerk at B.L.H.S. and at a travel agency. She loved to travel.
Bernice was an active member of Daughter of Utah Pioneers. Mom loved her emergency club activities with her very good friends. She loved to play scrabble, pinochle and rummy and she was very competitive. Way to go Mom! She loved all of her large family. She hosted Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter Celebrations up till the last two years.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed many callings; teacher, visiting teacher, Primary Stake Board, Relief Society Presidency. She served as a missionary in the Louisiana Baton Rouge Mission from May 1979 to November 1979.
Bernice is survived by her daughter, Karen Howard; two sons, Barnard (Nancy) Greenwood and Brent (Sandi) Greenwood; 25 grandchildren, 87 great-grandchildren, and 34 great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Russell Kofoed. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, two daughters, Zell Rae Rhoads and Sandra Youngman; her parents, five brothers, six sisters, one grandson, and two great-grandchildren.
Special thanks to Dr. Jan Erik Schow, who has taken care of her with loving concern for many years. Special thanks to all the caregivers from CNS Hospice for making her passing very peaceful and sweet.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
