Our beloved mother, Bernice K. Sheffield, 82, peacefully left mortality February 28, 2013.
Bernice was the 10th of 11 children born to Samuel and Edith Kitchen in Orem, UT, June 29, 1930. She attended schools in Orem graduating from Lincoln High School. While working near BYU, she met and married Homer J. Sheffield in the Salt Lake Temple, August 25, 1954. Mom and Dad moved into their Layton home more than 50 years ago. Mom exhibited great strength by leading our home after Dad''s passing in 1970.
She faithfully served in many church callings including Relief Society President. She was especially compassionate to widows everywhere. Devoted to keeping the family together, she held monthly gatherings at her home.
She traveled the world from Hong Kong to London and much of the United States with family and friends. Recently one could find Mom working out at a local gym, tutoring reading at the elementary school, or serving at the family history library. Mom regularly attended the ballet, DUP, institute, and BYU football games. Bernice was known for her expert sewing, homemade rolls, dipped chocolates, reweaving, artistic handiwork, Christmas socks, and a basement full of coupon items.
Surviving are children: Ricky (Terry), Craig (Miriam), Lisa (Benjamin) Mehr, daughter-in-law Marcia, brothers: Wesley and Lynn, and son Kim.
