Berniece Hilda (Ryser) Stewart

August 18, 1917 ~ March 13, 2016

Our loving Mother, and Grandmother, age 98 passed away on March 13, 2016 surrounded by her children.  She was the oldest of seven children and was born on August 18, 1917 in Salt Lake City to James Joseph and Hilda Schanz Ryser.  Berniece attended East High School and the University of Utah.

She married William Mitton Stewart in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on November 26, 1943.  William passed away after 42 years of marriage and Berniece lived independently in her home until she was 97 years old.

Berniece retired from the Ogden Defense Depot after 27 years of service.  She enjoyed her membership in the American Business Woman’s Association and Daughters of Utah Pioneers for many years.

Berniece served faithfully in numerous callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  She was best known for her selfless life of service, high level of energy, zest for life, million dollar smile, graciousness, generosity, sense of humor, and love and devotion to family.  She loved chocolate and bears.

Survived by her children, Bill, Susan, Jim (Annette), and Sandra (Phil) Brueck; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, one sister, Pauline, and two brothers, Charles and Karl.   Preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Lucille and Hilda Belle; brother, James; son-in-law, Alan Grose; daughter-in-law, Natalie Washburn and granddaughter, Marcee.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, Logan City Cemetery.

The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks for the tender care given to her by the angels at Pineview Rehab Center, Aspen Ridge Rehab Center, Wentworth at Willow Creek, and Brighton Hospice.
