Bert Wessel Gall, Jr.

January 25, 1930 ~ July 13, 2016

Bert Wessel Gall, Jr., 86, passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2016, peacefully in the company of his family.  Bert, also known to his friends as “Onion,” was born on January 25, 1930, to Bert Gall, Sr. and Dora Butler in Ogden.

Bert attended Weber High School and spent his younger years working at the Ogden Country Club, where he gained a great appreciation of the game of golf and formed a solid work ethic that would accompany him, and astound us all, the rest of his life.  He spent much of his youth in the mountains around Ogden hunting and fishing, and later worked as a fireman for the Union Pacific Railroad. In 1952 he was proud to join the Marine Corps, and served in the Korean War, being honorably discharged as a CPL.  Upon returning from Korea in 1954, he met Karen Neuenschwander and they were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1957; they have been joyfully married 59 years.  As a young couple they moved to Chicago, where Bert earned his Doctorate in Dental Surgery from Loyola University. He practiced Dentistry in Fair Oaks, California from 1962 to 1980.

After retiring he labored with love in his garden, where he grew an overabundance of fruit, vegetables, and flowers, which were regularly distributed to friends and neighbors.  He was best known for his humility, witty sense of humor and magnanimous generosity; and perhaps even more so for his unostentatious commitment to volunteering, whether at church or in the community.  A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Bert and Karen served a mission for the church in the Sacramento/Roseville Mission.  He was a tireless and spirited home teacher, even into his last days.  In 1998 they returned to Ogden to be close to family and friends, and to live in their beloved hometown.

Bert is survived by his wife, Karen Gall; his sister, Maxine Dabb; and his two children, Jeffrey Gall and Erin Hunter; as well as by his sister-in-law, Reneé Warner; two grandchildren, and numerous loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers-in-law, Wilmer Dabb and Dale Warner;

At his request there will be no funeral services or visitation; however, private family graveside services were held.  Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
