“Thank you for the honor of being our husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend.”

Bert M. Martinez, 91, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 29, 2014.  He was born in Del Norte, Colorado to Samuel Martinez and Carlotta Martinez on June 24, 1922.  He grew up on the family farm in Del Norte and graduated from Del Norte High School.  He moved to Utah where he lived in Tremonton, Roy, and settled in Ogden before moving to Farr West.

He married Rebecca C. Shaw in Toas, New Mexico on January 16, 1948.  They have been together for 66 years.

Dad served our country faithfully during World War II.

Dad was a devote member of the Catholic Church.  He was also a member of the American Legion, Moose Lodge, and VFW.

He retired from the Federal Government for Hill Air Force Base.

Dad enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting with his family.  He looked forward to and loved going on road trips and traveling to Yellowstone.

Dad is survived by his wife, Rebecca Martinez; children, Michael Filiberto Martinez, Byron (Barbara) Martinez, Carlotta Ambrose (Dennis), Kathy Hoskins (Dennis), Annette (Merrill) Spendlove, Cabrini (Eloy) Martinez, Patty (Mikel) Jepsen, Lonnie (Jennifer) Martinez, Tina Billmire, and Shelley (Richard) Howe; 29 grandchildren,40 great-grandchildren, and siblings, Gilbert Martinez, Elizabeth “Betty” LuJuan, Jim E. Martinez, and Librado Miguel Martinez,

He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Rebecca; grandson, John F. Ellis; parents, Samuel and Carlotta Martinez; and siblings, Ruth Pearson, Orlando Martinez, Arnold Martinez, Patricio Martinez, Elias Samuel Martinez, Elias Martinez, Samuel Martinez and Richard Martinez.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 6, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.  Friends may visit with family on Friday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.

Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
