Bertha E. Dexter
WASHINGTON TERRACE – Bertha Evans Dexter, 79, died Monday, June 9, 2008 in Ogden of causes incident to age.
She was born September 1, 1928 in Layton, a daughter of John Campkin and Ethel Sophia Taylor Evans. She was raised in the family home in Layton and attended Layton Elementary School, North Davis Junior High and graduated from Davis High School. She later trained at Weber State College for a position at Sperry Rand Corporation.
Bertha married Ralph George Dexter on February 18, 1949 in Layton. They moved to Washington Terrace in 1950 where they lived for the remainder of their lives. Ralph preceded her in death May 8, 1981.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Washington Terrace 4th Ward. She served as a Sunday School Secretary for almost 20 years and loved attending and doing temple work.
Bertha worked in the family appliance store on 16th Street and Washington Blvd. She also had several home businesses and worked at Sperry Rand in instrument repair followed by employment at Hill Air Force Base until 1994. She worked in the family Ice Business “Dexters Party Ice” from 1967 to 1993.
Surviving are one son and three daughters, Kenny Dexter, Layton; Connie M. Mott, Albuquerque, NM; Eileen D. Guptill and Roberta D. Mumma, both of Ogden; 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Bertha is also survived by her brother, Daniel Lynn Evans, Layton.
Preceding her in death were her parents, brother Howard, husband Ralph and her granddaughter Melody Rose Dexter.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
Friends may call at the mortuary on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.
Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the American Diabetes Association in Bertha’s name.
