Bessie A. Jensen
RIVERDALE – Bessie Aroline Arave Jensen, 101, died Monday, February 1, 2010 at her home.
She was born December 1, 1908 in Hooper, a daughter of Joseph Warren and Dorothea Zacher Arave.
Bessie married Floyd H Jensen on November 15, 1934 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Floyd preceded her in death on November 19, 1987.
In her early years, she lived in Hooper. She graduated from Weber High School’s first graduating class of 1927 and received a teaching certificate from Weber College in 1929. Following her marriage, she moved to San Bernardino, California and San Diego, California for six years. She returned to Hooper where she lived for approximately 30 more years. Bessie then moved to Ogden and later to Riverdale where she spent the final eight years of her life living with her daughter, DeAnn.
Bessie was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served a two-year Western States Mission in Nebraska and Colorado from 1931 to 1933. She also served in other various church callings including a stake mission with her husband, and was Relief Society president in two wards.
Her hobbies included oil and watercolor painting, reading, candy making, flower arranging, gardening and playing games.
Surviving are two sons and one daughter, Waldo (Lynette) Jensen, Gail Jensen, DeAnn (Steve) Clark, 11 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, two sisters, grandson, Scott Jensen, and great-granddaughters, Kate Duke and Natalie Allred.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
Friends may call at the mortuary on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
Interment, Hooper Cemetery.
