Beth Hokanson Kendell

April 12, 1926 ~ December 26, 2020

OGDEN–Beth Hokanson Kendell, 94, passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2020 of natural causes at her home in Ogden, Utah.

She was born on April 12, 1926 in Ogden, Utah. She was the first of five children born to Archibald Olof Hokanson and Adena Leona Stoker. She attended school in Ogden City and graduated from Ogden High School on June 1, 1944. Beth worked 20 years for her father, who owned and operated the Ogden Egg Company.

On February 20, 1952 she married Fredrick Henry Kendell of South Weber, Utah in the Salt Lake Temple.

Beth served two missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a young woman, she served in the Great Lakes Mission from February 6, 1950 to October 27, 1951. She served a second mission with her husband from 1995 to August 25, 1997 in Ogden City. She loved to attend the temple and was a member of a sealing group at the Ogden Temple.

Beth was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints her entire life. She served as President, Music Chorister and Teacher in the Primary and Relief Society organizations, and as a Teacher and Music Chorister in the Sunday School. She was a visiting teacher for 63 years.

Mom enjoyed family pictures and updates from her grandchildren. She also liked to read, be invited to dinner, visit on the phone and in her home and attend parties. She loved life and cherished her relationships with family and friends. Words that exemplify her life are, “Life is good…it’s all about perspective!” She loved the Spring because she could see the earth changing and new life appearing. Her favorite color was yellow, which also represented her sunny disposition and positive attitude. Her favorite song was “Scatter Sunshine”.

Beth was preceded in death by her husband, Fredrick Henry Kendell (January 23, 2004); her parents, Archibald Olof Hokanson and Adena Leona Stoker; and her three sisters, LouJean Wilson, Connie Price and Beverly Carlson.

She will be lovingly remembered by her six children: Sharon (Dennis) Leak, Carma (Kim) Ferrell, Colleen (Rick) Willey, Fred (Karen) Kendell, Denise (Todd) Johnson, and DeAnn (Ron) Mayhew. She is also survived by a brother, Russell Kent (Doris) Hokanson of Colorado; 24 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren. She loved her family and extended her love to all of her in-laws, considering them ALL her children and grandchildren.  Over time her family expanded through their marriages adding six more children and 17 more grandchildren. She also had many nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.
