Beth Gwen (Faulkner) Dinsdale Dickemore Snow

November 6, 1935 ~ March 26, 2016

Beth Gwen (Faulkner) Dinsdale Dickemore Snow, 80, passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2016 in Ogden, Utah.  Born at home on November 6, 1935, Beth was the daughter of Frank Riscomb Faulkner and Lucille Taysom.  The fifth child of 12 children, Beth was a loving sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, cosmetologist, business woman, avid reader, doll collector, writer, artist, and a woman of determination.  Though not a world traveler, Beth nurtured an intelligent curiosity and knowledge of world events, cultures, and what lay beyond the majestic mountains of Utah.

As a child growing up in Utah in the 1940’s, Beth loved to play Run Sheepy Run, Kick the Can and search the neighborhood sand hill for Indian artifacts, which she sold to the local firehouse for a penny.  She adored spending time at her Grandma Faulkner’s house, where she and her 11 siblings, played endlessly on the piano and rode their bikes on the front porch.  She never complained.  I don’t know how she stood it, Beth often said.

As a teen and adult, Beth loved music and dancing.  Often, she jitter-bugged with her brother, Max, while mopping the kitchen floor.  She attended Ogden High School, where she met her first husband, Max Eldon Dinsdale.  They married when she was 17 and divorced after the birth of their fifth child.  Beth raised her five children - Craig, Robin, Stacy, Julie, and Mark—as best one could as a young single parent, during the challenging times of the 60’s and early 70’s.

With unwavering resolve, Beth graduated from Beauty College, moved her family to Salt Lake City and bought her first home, while often working two jobs. She went on to become a successful cosmetologist, and business woman; as a manager for a JC Penny’s Beauty Salon and eventually, owning her own hair salon.  Many a woman benefited from the flattering updo’s, colors, cuts, and wise advice she provided as a hairdresser.

Beth married Raymond Dickemore, Jr., an easy going cowboy she described as a tall drink of water on a hot, summer day and moved to California. Their marriage ended soon after with his untimely death on May 9, 1975. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Remaining in California, Beth married Harold Snow, on May 13, 1984. Together, they returned to the place of her birth – Ogden.  There, Beth was reunited with her mother, sisters, life-long best friend, Arlene Phelps, and the mountains of Utah. Harry preceded her in death in the spring of April 2005.

Beth was a dedicated member of her church and developed her skills as a writer, doll collector and artist of ceramics. Many a grandchild delighted in painting at Nana Beth’s house and admiring her dolls from around the world.

Beth was a living example of what it means to be a loving strong woman; a woman of character.   Her memory lives on each day we strive for a better life beyond our own sand hills and pursue our dreams with unwavering faith and resilience.

Beth is survived by her children, Craig (Rhonda) Dinsdale, Robin Burgess, Stacy (Edee) Dinsdale, Julie (Don) Alexander, and Mark (Janeen) Dinsdale; 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; seven siblings, Dee, Joye, Connie, Brent, Susan, Mike, and Deborah.  Preceding her in death were her parents, and siblings, Dick, Wayne, Greg, and Max.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate Beth’s life on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.   Graveside services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.

The family would like to express their appreciation for the loving care Mom received from her sisters, Joye Faulkner, Connie Reader, and Dee Crocket, Elizabeth at Mountain Ridge Assisted Living during Mom’s final hours, and Merissa at Canyon Hospice.
