LAYTON - Bettie Jean Bates Cottrell, passed away Saturday, February 6, 2010 at her home.

She was born November 26, 1931 in Sherman, Texas the daughter of Homer R. and Elsie Lee Moman Bates.

Jean married Donald E. Cottrell in November 14, 1951 in Sherman, Texas. They later divorced.

Mom was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on January 2, 1952 and she served faithfully to the end. She went on three Temple missions with her dear friend Shirley Crawford, two to Atlanta, GA and one to Washington D.C.

Jean retired as the supervisor of the F-16 item managers at HAFB Base.

Surviving are her children: Cathy (John) Williams, Clearfield; Becky (Bob) Elmer, Mary (Kelly) Waite both of Layton; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, with three on the way, siblings, Thomas Bates of Tyler, TX; Jerry Bates of Arlington, TX; niece, Denise and Michael Harris, Irving, TX; and nephew Brad Bates.

Preceded in death by her parents and a sister-in-law who was a sister in every sense of the word, Pixie Bates.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 12, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends and family may call Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist''s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
