Betty Louise Scofield Drake

Our dear mother Betty Louise Scofield Drake, 78, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2017 in Ogden, Utah, due to natural causes.

Mom was born on August 14, 1938 in Spokane, Washington, to Elizabeth Ann Kern and William Grant Scofield, and was raised by Rachel Doyle Scofield Stephens in Oregon and Washington.

She married Leland Dean Drake on August 30, 1957 in Skamania, Washington, and together they had three children, Cindy Lou, Douglas Dean and Sennet Lea.

Dad was in the Air Force and together they served at Larsen AFB near Moses Lake, Washington, Anderson AFB on the island of Guam, Whiteman AFB near Knob Knoster, Missouri, and Luke AFB near Goodyear, Arizona, where she lived for forty years.  In her professional life, mom worked hard to help support her family as a Certified Nurses Aid and Licensed Practical Nurse.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served for many years as a Girl Scout leader.  She loved to read, make quilts, be with and serve the Missionaries, and watch her World War Two movies.  She also loved John Wayne, “not the old one but the young one with the cute butt,” and her many dogs that kept her company over the years.

Mom was preceded in death by her husband Lee in 1977 and her daughter Sennet in 1984 and she is survived by her daughter Cindy Gollwitzer (Tom), of North Pole, Alaska, her son Doug (Teresa), of Layton, Utah, 9 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren.

We are forever grateful for her friends from the Goodyear Ward who watched over her while she lived alone for so many years.  We are also grateful for the friends and staff at the Mountain View Health Services Care Center in Ogden and President Hawkins and the members of the Country Meadows Branch for the love, support, care, and compassion that they gave and showed to mom over the past two years.

A private service for friends and family will be held at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road, Layton, Utah and Burial Services will be held at the Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Glendale, Arizona.

Condolences may be sent to the family at www.lindquistmortuary.com
