Betty Smith Ellis

KAYSVILLE - Betty Lu Smith Schryver Ellis was born May 2, 1935 to Henry Orville and Elizabeth Udy Smith in Susanville, California. She died peacefully of natural causes on Tuesday, January 7, 2014. She married Darrold Wayne Schryver on July 9, 1955, later divorced. She married Gordon Manfull Ellis on March 29, 1963.  Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake L.D.S. Temple.

Betty was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She found singing in the Ward Choir enriching and fond memories of her service in Primary and Young Women’s Programs. She was a missionary for the Family History Extraction Program at the time of her death.

She loved music, especially sacred. She enjoyed sharing her talent of crochet with her family and enjoyed friends, making numerable afghans and children’s clothing. She delighted in a wide variety of flowers and took pleasure in watching birds in the back yard.

She spent many happy years working for Dr. Frank Kramer at Tanner Clinic in Layton, UT as a medical assistant where she was able to interact with the small children that she so loved. Later she worked as a teacher’s aide at Burton Elementary School in Kaysville, UT.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon, and step-son, Michael Charles Ellis. She is survived by her children Curtis (Jeri) Schryver, Kaysville; Glenn (Kim) Schryver, Twin Lakes, CO; William (Corinna) Schryver, Layton; Carrie (Craig) Bon, Layton; Erin (Steve) Curtis, Mt. Olive, SC; Emily (Travis) Thompson, Selah, WA; Step-daughter Elizabeth  Swearingen, Boise, ID; 37 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are her brother, Franklin O. (Patricia) Smith and sister, Suzanne Schreiber.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the medical staff at Davis Hospital for their kind and caring service.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Kaysville 13th Ward Chapel, 875 E. 200 No.  Friends may visit family Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.  Interment, Farmington City Cemetery.
