Betty Hardman
Let us tell you what we loved about Betty Anne Hardman, our beloved Mom, Sister, Gramma, Aunt and friend.
She lived her life with passion, integrity and a love of learning and teaching.
As our mom she had a wonderful way of making us feel special on our birthdays. She would make us our favorite dinner no matter how off the wall it was, and a homemade cake. She would personalize the cake with what was happening in our lives at the time. Growing up we loved going camping. We camped in the big green tent, went fishing on the bank and loved exploring the mountains in the back of the truck. AND OH THE FOOD!!! She made the most delicious meals out of just about anything! She worked for Davis County School District as a manager for the school lunch program. Her goal was to make sure every child had a warm delicious meal at school.
When she and our dad bought their home in Bountiful, she believed in living off the land. They loved growing and preserving the food they grew. Canning tomatoes and making her famous salsa are traditions we still carry on today.
She also loved MUSIC! She knew music was a great way to relate and find common ground with people. Often times she would push the furniture back, grab a wooden spoon and we would sing and dance to all of our favorite tunes.
She loved gathering friends and family together, Thanksgiving was her favorite holiday, and she loved what Thanksgiving stood for. We would all pile in the back of the truck and sing Christmas carols all over Bountiful and then come home to her homemade chili to warm us back up. We loved getting together and decorating Christmas cookies, and of course the Christmas program on Christmas Eve, taking turns opening gifts Christmas morning and hearing “love it later….NEXT!”, Easter dinner, fireworks out in the front yard, and Sunday dinners with the family.
Her sister April would come and spend the weekends with her. They loved relating, talking, morning cups of coffee and tackling the cross word puzzles on Sunday mornings.
She and her friends would get together and head out to Wendover, they would celebrate each other’s birthdays over lunch, and everyone always looked forward to the “Girls Party”.
Whenever she had the opportunity to travel she loved it. She loved her trips to Catalina Island, Hawaii, New Orleans, California, Vegas, Phoenix, and South Carolina. When she married her love Wally, they traveled across America in their motor home visiting family, and many places she wanted to see and experience that were on her bucket list. She loved the idea of “having her house on her back.”
Once she became a “Gramma”, a lot of her life became about her grandkids. They loved going over to Gramma Vetties house. She always made it special. She loved introducing the kids to the art of making bread and homemade jam from the blackberries in the yard, taking them camping and fishing at Strawberry Reservoir, picking tomatoes out of the garden, BATH TIME, watching their favorite movies 15 times, or just sharing a late night bowl of corn flakes and talking.
When her love and life partner Wally died a part of her died too. She continued supporting and caring for Wally’s two wonderful children with disabilities, Jodie and Russ.
Later in life she embraced Facebook. She loved reading about what was happening in people’s lives, watching heartwarming and funny videos people would post, and staying in touch with people she might not otherwise stayed in touch with. And the games, she loved playing games with family, friends and acquaintances alike.
