Betty-Jean Ruth Higley Jackson

November 18, 1926 — March 3, 2025

Betty-Jean Ruth Higley Jackson of Ogden, Utah, passed away on March 3, 2025, from natural causes. She was born November 18, 1926, in West Ogden to Leland Ray Higley and Ruth Marie Smith. At age ten, her family moved to Hooper, Utah. She graduated from Weber High School and then attended BYU.

She worked at the Arsenal (now part of Hill Air Force Base) while still in high school and during World War II. This was the beginning of many years of working at various government offices including the IRS and Hill Air Force Base.

Betty-Jean married George Scott Jackson of Randolph, Utah, in the Salt Lake Temple on November 26, 1947. They made their home in Ogden in 1949 and continued living in the same area until her death.

Betty-Jean’s life was about service, including serving in various Relief Society callings in her ward; she also taught Primary and Young Women. Most remembered by her family were the countless hours she served caring for her daughter-in-law who suffered from cancer, and the many years she cared for her parents. She never complained about the time or the inconveniences that surely must have been present.

Somehow, in all her service, she still found time to crochet, cross-stitch, sew, and take organ lessons with her sister and friends. She crocheted altar cloths for LDS Temples with one going as far as the Houston Texas Temple.

Her surviving family includes Steven S. (Marianne) Jackson, G. Paul (Janice) Jackson, Susan Jackson, Connie (David G.) Johnson, and Ann (Alan B.) Gessel. She also has 17 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren, as well as her brother, Gary Lee Higley. She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Robert L; a daughter-in-law, Ruth (Ehlert) Jackson; her parents; brothers, Monte Higley and Don Higley; and her sister, Elaine Fowers.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the Rushton Heights Ward, 1550 Ruston Street.
