Betty Mae Nye
Betty Mae Nye, 79, passed away Sunday October 2, 2016. Betty was born April 21, 1937 to Oscar and Mae Tracy and grew up in Ogden, Utah. She was a happy, care-free girl who loved to laugh. She married David Darcey Nye on April 24, 1957 in the Salt Lake Temple.
Betty’s greatest priority was her family. But she also found time to work as a teacher’s aid for nearly 20 years spending hours every day helping children learn to read and do math. Her compassion, understanding, and patience touched the lives of hundreds of children.
She adored her husband, Darcey, and together they became as one over 52 years of marriage. They loved to go camping and exploring the outdoors. Betty was famous for playful teasing and starting family and sometimes neighborhood water fights.
Betty truly endured to the end. Her journey was filled with love and happiness, but she also endured the pain and discomfort of poor health and the loneliness of living without her life-long sweetheart. Her faith stands as a monument and will have a lasting effect on all those who knew and loved her.
There were many special friends, caregivers, and ward members that meant the world to Betty and to each of you, we say thank you! Your care and tenderness has meant a lot to Betty and to us, her family.
She longed to return to her heavenly home and reunite with her husband. Today, she is laughing, dancing, and singing again. Free of pain and discomfort she will be earnestly watching over her family and cheering us on as we face our daily challenges. May we meet them as victoriously as she met hers.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Dixie (Alan) Hatch, her two sons, Chad Nye, and Matt (Kazmin) Nye, nine grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.
