“Together Again, Forever”

SOUTH OGDEN–Betty Jean Venable Sawyer, 88, has accomplished her earthly work and passed back into the arms of her eternal sweetheart.  She passed away at home on February 18, 2017.

She was born on June 16, 1928 in the family home in Ogden, Utah, daughter of Alvin Richard Venable and Francis “Irene” Thompson Venable.  She attended public schools graduating from LDS Seminary and Weber High School in 1946.

On June 5, 1946, Betty married Norman Frederick Sawyer in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many capacities including a Cub Scout Leader and Trainer. She was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers.

Betty was a totally devoted and loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great-grandmother, many times sacrificing her time and needs to provide for her family and others.  She had a beautiful singing voice and a kind, gracious spirit becoming even sweeter as she aged.  Her hobbies were loving Norman, doting over her posterity, sewing, camping, family gatherings, and chocolate!

She assisted Norman to provide for their large family by taking in ironing and was a beloved “Avon Lady”.  She also worked at JC Penny's, ZCMI and Wienstock's as a salesperson and department manger.

Surviving are her seven children, Roger Sawyer of Grantsville; Judy (Stephen) Farr  of Ogden; Keith (Kelly) Sawyer of Woods Cross; Lynn (Teri) Sawyer of Farr West;  Brenda (Matt) Goodson of South Ogden; Larry (Susan) Sawyer of West Point; and Neal (Patti) Sawyer of Uintah;  35 grandchildren,  74 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are her brother, Dee (Betty) Venable of North Ogden; and brother-in-law, Jerry Brown of St. George.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Norman F. Sawyer; daughter-in-law, Maryann Sawyer; and great-grandsons, Fayt Yeagley and Oliver Rose.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 2 p.m. at the Burch Creek 5th Ward Chapel, 4995 Adams Ave., South Ogden, with Bishop Wesley Hansen conducting.  Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. and Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the church.  Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.

Special thanks go to her son, Roger; daughter. Brenda; and son-in-law, Matt whose special daily care made it possible for her to remain at home through her last day.  Also many thanks to Peak Specialty Home Health for their care and support for Betty and all the family.
