Betty Louise Sack Silk

September 13, 1921 ~ July 31, 2015

Betty Louise Silk, loving mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend returned to her Heavenly Father and her eternal companion, Albert, on July 31, 2015 in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Betty was born in Denver, Colorado on September 13, 1921, the daughter of John and Elizabeth Griffith Sack.  She was the middle child of 10 children.  She grew up and attended schools in Denver.  At the age of 18 she moved to Los Angeles, California where she eventually met her husband, Albert Silk.  They were married on July 30, 1942 in Los Angeles, California and later married for time and eternity in the Los Angeles LDS Temple on October 17, 1959.  Together they had two daughters.  After working for 15 years with the Los Angeles City School District, Betty retired and they moved to Ogden, Utah in 1978 to be closer to family.  Albert passed away on October 29, 1986 at the age of 75.

Betty was a simple lady who had an abundance of energy, love, and charity for everyone she met. Known for her great work ethic, she was always thinking of and doing for others, and she left this legacy for her daughters. She was a shining example of service.  Her unselfishness was a result of her humble beginnings as a child. She loved the LDS Temples and worked in the Ogden LDS Temple for eight years. She always served valiantly in her many church callings. Her family and church were most important to her.  Up until her final months, she was always creating beautiful handiwork and every project she started was always completed. She will be remembered for her Christmas spirit.  There were never enough blinking lights on the Christmas tree or Christmas presents under the tree to express her love for family and friends.  We will always cherish the fond memories of family vacations.

Betty blessed the lives of her family, friends, and community for many, many years with her generosity.  She spent her final hours alert and laughing with youngest daughter Lois and a dear nephew, Paul Piper.

Betty is survived by her two daughters, Susan (Gerald) Wright and Lois Silk; six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and nephews and nieces who will miss her very much. We know she is at peace now, ready to take on a new service project.  She was preceded in death by her siblings, two brothers, and seven sisters, a generation extending 112 years long.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 7, 2015 at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.  Friends may visit with family on Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.

Memorial contributions may be made to the LDS General Missionary Fund or Church Educational Fund.
