Betty Jean Voss

Betty Jean Voss LAYTON - Betty passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 after a full life of 87 years. She passed away at McKay Dee Hospital from complications related to Osteoporosis. Betty started life in Modale, Iowa on February 17, 1924. During high school, she participated on the girls’ basketball team, which won State championships, two years in a row. After graduation, Betty headed out West to Burbank with her two best girlfriends and got a job at Lockheed riveting airplane parts. While walking down the street one day with her girlfriends, Betty caught the attention of the very handsome Van Joseph Voss, who was riding by with his friends in a car. Van was so captivated by Betty that he jumped out of the car to chase her down the sidewalk. They were married a short time later and moved to Utah when Van got a job at Hill Air Force Base. Betty spent the next 60+ years having and raising a family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and rarely missed any of her grandkids' sporting events. An avid Jazz fan, Betty reportedly never missed a televised game. She participated on bowling leagues for many years. Betty had a terrific sense of humor and was truly beloved by her family. She had a special connection with her grandchildren, who called her "G." Betty was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Layton 4th Ward. She was recently endowed in the Bountiful Temple and sealed to her departed husband, parents and brother. Van preceded her in death in 2003. She is survived by three children: Cary (Donna) Voss of Kaysville, Sherrie (Tom) Pattillo of Liberty and Randy (Jill) Voss of Layton. She is also survived by ten grand children and eight great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at Legacy Village and Teresa Olsen for their compassionate care and service over the last few months. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield. Friends may visit family Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
