Betty Lou Etterlein Winward

On March 11, 2013, Betty Lou Etterlein Winward, our sweet angel mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend left this earth. She was born on January 13, 1928 to Gerald B. and Kathaleen Kelly Etterlein.

Betty grew up in Ogden and attended St. Joseph Catholic School through eleventh grade then went on to graduate from Ogden High School. She began work at St. Benedict''s Hospital, working many years, including during the polio epidemic. She also worked in the EEG lab. In her 70''s she became a substitute teacher in special ed.

She met Willard Wallace Winward, was swept off her feet, married and began their life-long love affair. Today Willard''s Kitten was reunited with her Tomcat. Meow!

She was a devoted, loving, mother to five daughters, all of whom were her favorites. Julia L. (John) Smith, Christine E. (Paul) Bennett, Shelly C. (Ron) Tatton, Kelle J. (Max) Jones, Aimee C. (Blake) Heward, a first class grandma to 15 grandchildren, and a hilarious great-grandmother to 13 great-grandchildren, with one on the way.

We thank Clyde Hancock for his sweet companionship to our mother.

Betty lived a wonderful life that included the daily crossword puzzle, golfing, bowling and making Christmas candy. She was in charge of her life and her family, until the end.

We will miss her contagious laugh, whistling and humming, dancing and singing at any given moment, and her uplifting, optimistic attitude and wise advice.

Betty is survived by sisters, Shirley Johnson, Patricia (Rod) Waite, Mary (Robert) Merrill and Jan Shanklin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard W. Winward; parents, brothers, William Etterlein and Robert K. Etterlein; sisters, Kathaleen Morel and Geraldine Hopkins and nephews and nieces.

A special thank you to Dr. Carl Gray for his compassionate and loving care of Mom and her girls.

A Celebration of her life will begin with friends visiting with family on Friday, March 15, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. with Rosary at 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2013 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 514 24th St.

Mom always said, "You are a "10", and I hold you in that special place in my heart."
