Betty (Elizabeth) Lujan

February 26, 1929 – June 1, 2019

Betty (Elizabeth) Lujan, 90, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 1, 2019.  She was born in Del Norte, Colorado to Samuel Martinez and Carlotta Martinez on February 26, 1929 where she grew up on the family farm and graduated from Del Norte High School.

She married John A. Lujan on July 6, 1949 and they later moved to Utah, where they raised their family.  Betty retired from Hill AFB after a long Civil Service career.

She enjoyed hosting family gatherings, crocheting, playing bingo, traveling, camping and when she was young was an avid reader and bowler.  She especially loved spoiling her poodles after retirement.

Betty is survived by her children, Jacki (Nick) Sturzenegger, Layton; Michael (Elaine) Lujan, Clinton; and Tammy (Rob) Lewis, Colfax, Washington.  She was the proud grandmother to eight grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.  Surviving siblings include Gilbert Martinez and Jim E. Martinez.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband John and eldest daughter Charlene Hanks; her parents Samuel and Carlotta Martinez; and siblings, Ruth Pearson, Orlando Martinez, Arnold Martinez, Patricio Martinez, Elias Samuel Martinez, Samuel Martinez, Richard Martinez, Bert Martinez and Librado Martinez.

The family would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Staff at Country Pines Memory Care in Clinton, Utah and Envision Home Health and Hospice for their loving care of our mom.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 10, 2019 at 10 a.m. at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 210 Chapel Street, Layton, Utah.  Friends may visit family Sunday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.  A vigil with Rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m.
