Beulah Thurgood Cook

Beulah Thurgood Cook, a lifetime resident of Syracuse, passed away peacefully Thursday, November 3, 2011 surrounded by her loving family, of causes incident to age. She was born September 19, 1921 to Therin and LeOra Harris Thurgood and recently celebrated her 90th birthday. She married Leslie P. Cook on March 3, 1938 in Farmington, Utah. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on June 29, 1944. She is now happily reunited with her loving husband who passed away on October 18, 2000. She has 19 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was a loving and caring mother first and foremost, but midway in life, due to health problems of her husband, she shared in providing for the family and became a stabilizing force in keeping the family together and as a result she worked at Hill AFB for 11 years, to be followed by several years at the Anchorage Market and 13 years at Stimson''s Market.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the Primary and Sunday school organizations as a teacher. She actively served for more than 63 years as a visiting teacher in the Relief Society.

She thoroughly enjoyed her lifelong pursuit of collecting and repairing dolls. She was the curator of Bee''s Doll Hospital and spent many hours repairing dolls for herself and others.

She is survived by her children: Val T. ( Pat) Cook, Dennis L. (Sharon) Cook, Gary S. (Sheila) Cook, ShuRee L. (Larry) Kerr, Kevin T. (Sue) Cook, and brother Boyd Thurgood. She was preceded in death by her husband Leslie P. Cook, their son Brent M. Cook, brothers DeLore Thurgood, Duane Thurgood, and great-granddaughter, Lacey Lawrence.

She will be dearly missed by her family but we are comforted knowing that she is just taking another step in her eternal progression.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 7, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Sandridge Ward, 2700 So. 1000 W., Syracuse. Friends may visit family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment, Syracuse City Cemetery.

We wish to express our sincere gratitude to Dot for her tireless and loving care for our mother. We also wish to thank Brenda, Brooklyn and all the hospice caregivers.
