Beverly Betts Nye
OGDEN- Beverly Betts Nye our loving mother passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 17, 2012 just five days after celebrating her 94th birthday.
She was born on March 12, 1918 to Arthur and Edna Bott Betts and was raised and educated in Ogden, Utah. She married Alan L. Nye on June 1, 1941 and they raised four sons and one daughter. Gregory Betts Nye, Holly Nye Bauman (Joseph), Fredrick Morgan Nye, Bret Nye and Rodger Allan Nye (Teresa).
Mother was Valedictorian of her graduating class from Ogden High School. She earned a dual major of English and Music at the University of Utah and played a piano concerto at her college graduation ceremony. She also spoke French which she maintained by reading French mystery books. Mom loved learning, reading and cross-word puzzles, long rides collecting rocks for her garden, skiing, golf, pottery, painting, traveling and making the most of her 94 years.
Mother loved living in Ogden and was very active in the community. She was president of the Junior League of Ogden and a member of the Weber County Library Board, she belonged to the Ogden Opera Guild. Mom and dad were great supporters of Weber State University and always had season tickets to the Ogden Symphony and Ballet. Mother received an award from the University of Utah as well as a Distinguished Service Award from Weber State University.
Remembrances of mother from family and friends... she could iron a shirt without taking it off the hanger, she was proud to be living in her beautiful house, she could spell any word, she was always kind and gracious to everyone she met, when she turned 50 she took up pottery in the Golden Hours Center, she loved looking at the beautiful mountains, she said that her teeth were sweet teeth. She loved painting, bridge or any card game she loved traveling the world with Alan and her family, and was always ready for an adventure, she loved her children, grandkids and great-grandchildren, Mom and dad had many close friends throughout their lives.
She is survived by her five children, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, sister Kay Wilson and many nieces and nephews.
A "Celebration of Mom''s Life" will be held on Sunday April 1, 2012 at 3 p.m. at Weber State University Lindquist''s Alumni Center, 3848 Harrison Blvd.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Weber State University, Ogden Symphony and Ballet Association or a charity of choice.
Innerment, Aultorest Memorial Park.
Cremation and arrangements entrusted to Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary.
