Beverly Steel Leavitt Weeks

May 14, 1932 — October 1, 2022

 

Beverly, age 90, of Layton, UT, passed peacefully surrounded by family on October 1, 2022. The first child of Elmer Vern Steel and Jennie Callister, she was born on May 14, 1932 in Basin, ID. She attended grammar school in the Basin, and high school in Burley, ID. After graduation from high school, she left for college at BYU in 1950 where she met Ray Hunt Leavitt from Las Vegas, NV, and they married in the Idaho Falls Temple in 1951. Two children, Warren and Larry, were born to the couple.

 

Ray was in the Air Force, and this moved the family to Arizona, Texas, Florida, California, and back to Las Vegas. Ray died in a tragic Air Force accident in 1957. A year and a half after Ray’s passing, Beverly married Lynn Richard Weeks in 1958 and their families joined, with his sons Steve, Don, and Dave. They welcomed another three children to the family: Chris, Jennie, and Roger.

 

After the oldest 7 children were grown, Beverly went back to BYU in 1984 and completed her education degree in 1987. She taught at the local Head Start program for several years. She also worked in the legislative support offices of the Utah State Legislature. Beverly and Lynn then spent a year from 1991-1992 serving an LDS mission in Lansing, Michigan.

 

 She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Ray, second husband Lynn, stepsons Don and Steve, and daughter-in-law Laurel.

 

She is survived by sisters LaVerne Pritchard (Roseburg, OR), Rowene Jack (Peoria, AZ), Carma (Leroy) Potter (Huntsville, UT), and brother Duane (Mary) Steel (American Falls, ID). Her children and their spouses: daughter-in-law Aleda Weeks (Las Vegas, NV), David (Lynnette) Weeks (San Antonio, TX), Warren (Bonnie) Leavitt (Hebron, OH), Larry (Susan) Leavitt (Trabuco Canyon, CA), Chris Weeks (St. George, UT), Jennie (Mark) Laub, (West Point, UT), and Roger (Lori) Weeks, (Vail, AZ).

 

Beverly also leaves behind a legacy of 30 grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great-grandchildren. Her family was the most important thing in her life.

 

A celebration of Beverly’s life will be held on Thursday, October 13, 2022 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary,1867 N Fairfield Rd,, Layton, Utah. All friends and family are invited to come and share their memories of Beverly. She will be laid to rest next to Ray Leavitt in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Las Vegas, on Saturday, October 15th at 2:00 pm.

 

The family would like to especially thank the staff at Fairfield Village, Dr. Glen Biddulph, Seong Barnes and the caring staff from Enhabit Home Health, Beverly’s loving friends from the Lunch Bunch and Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, and all those who have helped her and have been her friend over the years.
