Bill Day passed away in his home on April 11, 2023 at the age of 97.
He was born October 16, 1925 to parents William and Alice Day at their home in West Layton. He graduated from Davis High School and received his WWII Army draft notice shortly after his 18th birthday. He proudly served his country and spent time in France, Germany, and Italy with the 1269th Engineering Batallion. After returning home from the war, he graduated from Utah State University with a degree in Agriculture. He began working construction after graduation and built many homes in the Layton area while also farming. He eventually transitioned to full time farming and established Day Farms with his sons. He also enjoyed a long-time position on the Board of Directors of First National Bank of Layton.
Bill married Carol Ann Layton in the Salt Lake Temple on January 24th, and they recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. They have eight children, 22 grandchildren, and 30 great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Carol Ann Layton and children Evelyn Zimmerman, Marie Hafen (Kevin), Tom, David (Veanne), Alan (Marsha), Carol Merrill (Kent), Ryan (Natalie), and Steve.
As a lifelong resident of Layton, Bill proudly served on the Layton City Planning Commission and City Council. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many church callings. He cared deeply for people and valued hard work and honesty. He was passionate about farming, obsessed about the weather, and reluctantly stopped working in his early 90s. He was a kind, generous, humble, and always willing to help. The family would like to thank Amber and Melanie from Utah Home Health and Hospice for their caring assistance. He’ll be greatly missed.
