Blain Delbert Edwards
February 24, 1941 ~ January 27, 2018
Blain Edwards passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, January 27, 2018 surrounded by his family.
Blain was born at home on February 24, 1941 to Lorin Edwards and Inez Thelda Knight.
He married Claudia Checketts on June 2, 1960 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. In 1962, he and Claudia built a home next door to his parents where they would spend their life together. Over the years they were blessed with five children, 17 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. From birth to death, he cultivated a legacy of family, faith and love on that one piece of property.
Blain took great pride in his home and yard, he loved to garden and passed his green thumb talents along to his posterity. Many passing by noticed him on his Jazzy driving around his yard, picking up twigs and leaves with his grabber. His lawn was immaculate; he was the “gravel raker and onion chaser” as he kept even the gravel next to the street in order, and picked up onions that fell from the trucks that drove by.
Blain spent his career at Del Monte, where he started throwing cases at the age of 17 and worked his way up to managing the facility. He retired at a young age and spent the next 23 years enjoying time with his family and friends.
The second oldest of eight children, Blain spent summers camping, hunting and fishing with his brothers and sisters; their children grew up together in the Uintah Mountains, creating a legacy of love for the outdoors and a family bond that will continue for generations.
Blain loved the Savior and spent many years faithfully serving in LDS callings. He was a coach and Scout Leader, continuing friendships with his youth long after they grew into adulthood. He was High Priest Group Leader more than once, a calling where he learned to love attending the temple. Blain was known for being a tease; his wit did not fail him, even up to the end of his life he comforted his family and visitors with gentle teasing. He knew and loved each of his grandchildren, taking an interest in everything they did, even after his health rendered him homebound. Their love and respect for him was evident in every conversation and phone call.
Blain is survived by his devoted wife Claudia, children Kenny (Jann), Uintah; Gary (Peggy), West Point; David (Glenna), Syracuse; Tammy Peterson (Jeff), Layton; and Angie O’Brien (Rob), Syracuse; grandchildren- Scott and Corey Hodson; Tyler, Casey, Adam, Jessi and Madi Edwards; Amanda Wilcox; Lauren Barber; Emily Bateman; William and Ben Peterson; Connor, Kaden, Mallory and Addison O’Brien; nine great-grandchildren with another due soon, six siblings and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Geraldine Dyson (sister) and Michael Peterson (grandson).
