Blaine Holliday Atkinson, 89, died surrounded by his family on Friday, May 30, 2014.
He was born October 29, 1924 in Weston, Idaho, son of George Richard and Rose Holliday Atkinson. He was raised in the Ogden area. His home for the last 52 years has been Taylor, Utah.
Blaine married Elaine Bell on June 22, 1944 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She passed away on March 12, 2009. In 1945 he enlisted in the US Army, finishing his enlistment at the end of WWII/Korean Occupation as a Sergeant E-5.
Blaine was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. At the time of his death he was a member of the Taylor 1 st Ward. He served in many callings, both ward and stake. He was an Instructor, Home Teacher, Stake High Councilor, and Bishop’s Councilor. He served the past two summers at the Harrisville Crops, Welfare Farm. His favorite calling was Special Needs Scout Troop Leader.
Blaine attended Ogden High, Weber High, and Henager Business College. Dad worked at the O.U.R.&D. (Union Pacific Railroad) for 40 years and early in his career earned the name of “Cupcake” from the ladies at the U.P. Laundry.
Dad loved and enjoyed his family every day. He was a farmer and a stockman. He was cheerful to the very end of his life. We loved to camp, fish, backpack, work and hunt with Dad. He was a great neighbor and friend to all. He was a truly generous man, always showing grace and humility.
Surviving are his children Mike and Nedra Atkinson of Taylor; Brent and Celeste Atkinson of Brookside (currently serving and LDS mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo); son-in-law, Ross Ransom of Ivins; Jeff and Shirley Atkinson of Taylor; 23 grandchildren and 67 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Elaine, daughter Sandy Atkinson Ransom, brothers George and Lyle (Kelly), sister Mildred and one grandson, Sam.
