Blaine Lavere Seamons

June 18, 1936 ~ May 18, 2021

Blaine Lavere Seamons, loving husband, father, grandfather, friend and disciple, passed away on May 18, 2021 at his home in North Ogden, Utah.

Blaine was born June 18, 1936 to Wilford Royce Seamons and Gladys Halcyon Daines in Preston, Idaho, the youngest of eight children. He grew up in the town where he was born, playing baseball, helping his father in his carpentry trade and singing in school glee clubs and productions. Music was a lifelong love.

After serving for two years in the Great Lakes Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he completed a bachelor’s degree in English at Brigham Young University. He married his sweetheart, Justine Dawn Grover, June 9, 1966 in the Logan LDS Temple.

He was an educator and a natural teacher. He taught junior high and high school English and was a favorite among his students. He began a 31-year career at the Utah Schools for the Deaf and Blind in 1968, where he taught language arts to the hearing impaired, wrote federal grant applications and eventually led the state’s Deaf/Blind Services program. He also served the school’s employees as the president of the USDB Credit Union.

He lived in North Ogden for most of his life, where he built a home with Justine, raising children and shepherding grandchildren, working and serving in church callings and in civic duties, and living the life he loved.

Blaine was a faithful disciple of Christ and a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in three missions, three bishoprics, two high councils, a Sunday School Presidency and nearly 20 years as a ward choir director. He was also a strong advocate of Scouting, serving in a calling as a Scoutmaster, and volunteering for more than decade as a merit badge counselor, a district advancement chairman. In honor of his service, he was awarded the distinguished Silver Beaver Award.

Blaine was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and five sisters, and by a granddaughter, Kate Elizabeth Gleason. He is survived by Justine; by his seven children, Sarah Seamons, Blaine “Butch” (Nicki) Seamons, Melissa Seamons, Donald (Stephanie) Seamons, Jonathan “J.J.” (Margaret “Meg”) Seamons, Emily (Rob) Gleason, Matthew (Johnanne) Seamons; by 15 grandchildren; and by a brother, Ronald (Betty) Seamons.
