BLAINE EARL SPENCER

1937-2016

Blaine Earl Spencer left his world to begin a new adventure August 23, 2016.  He passed away in his daughter’s home in Bountiful, Utah from a pulmonary embolism.

Blaine was born November 14, 1937 to Earl Eugene Spencer and Clara Nelson Spencer in Salina, Utah.  He loved growing up in the Redmond hills.  He incorporated a strong work ethic into his life that he learned from his father and then passed on to his son and son-in-law.  He graduated from North Sevier High School with a scholarship to the College of Southern Utah in Cedar City, Utah.  He graduated from CSU and Idaho State University.  He met his eternal sweetheart, Betty Ann Franczewski, in Cedar.  They were married May 3, 1958 and then in the Manti Temple for eternity in 1959.  He never let a day go by without kissing Betty and telling her numerous times he loved her.

Blaine served in the army at Fort Lewis, Washington.  After the army he began a 45 year career in Data Processing.  He worked for Zion and First Security Banks, taught at Idaho State University and opened the first Apple Computer Store in Pocatello, Idaho.  He loved his career and was a pioneer in the computer world.

Blaine found lots of ways to play with his family.  Their favorite trips were hunting, snowmobiling and the many summers they spent at Lake Powell.  When he wasn’t playing, he used his talents to remodel his homes and create beautiful yards.  Blaine will be most remembered by his sense of humor!

Blaine was proud of his membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  He served in many callings: Elders Quorum President, High Priest Group Leadership, and most of his life as a clerk-both Ward and Stake.  Together Blaine and Betty worked as ordinance workers in the Bountiful Temple, served a full time mission in Fayetteville, Arkansas, where they taught institute at the University of Arkansas, and later they served a Family History mission at the Church History building.  Blaine served as Seminary President in high school.  He refused to have his appendix out when the surgery interfered with his speaking at seminary graduation.

Blaine is preceded in death by his parents, brother Dolph Spencer and sister-in-law Joyce Spencer.  He is survived by his wife Betty; sister Doris (Jay); son Brian Earl Spencer (Patricia); daughter Francesca Dee Hopson (Steven); and seven grandchildren: Halli Hopson (Sean LemMon),  Hilari Pectol (Austin), Harrison Hopson, Ryan Spencer (Chantel), Devan Pinacles-Johnson, Kalyn and Hannah Campbell.  Plus four great-grandchildren:  Emilia and Tarah Spencer, Dahlia LemMon and Lincoln Pectol.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 29, 2016 at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary 727 N. 400 E. Bountiful, UT.  Friends may visit Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. and from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to the service on Monday.  Interment Lakeview Memorial Cemetery.
