SYRACUSE - Blair R Barber, 87, was born August 26, 1931 to James Rulon and Hazel Doman Barber. He passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2019. He was a great husband, father, brother, and grandfather. He loved his family and provided for them well. He enjoyed working. He worked with his dad on the farm until he graduated from high school.
He married Shirley Young November 18, 1950. It was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. They had three daughters and three sons. He worked for Smedley Plumbing for 28 years and the Davis School District for 20 years in their building trade program.
Blair and his wife served a mission to Cherry Hills New Jersey in 2000. He held many church callings. He especially enjoyed serving with the ward, stake, regional and all church athletic programs. He enjoyed being the ward dance instructor and going to all Church Dance Festivals. He enjoyed his positions in the Elder’s Quorum and High Priest Group leadership. He enjoyed his many years of volunteer service at Antelope Island.
He is survived by his wife Shirley, sister Rulene (Leonard) Mills, daughters, Joanne (Roger) McDermott, Carole (Brent) Hoppe, Gayl (Todd) Benson, 20 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, one more on the way and four great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Sherman and Verle, three sons, Stanley, Kenyon and David and one great-grandchild Lexie Cawley.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 25, 2019 at 11 a.m. at the Syracuse 2nd Ward, 2228 So. 1660 W., Syracuse. Friends may visit with family Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Syracuse City Cemetery.
