Blanche Thompson Hansen July 9, 1911 ~ May 15, 2007
Blanche Thompson was born on July 9, 1911, in Garland, Utah, to James Joseph and Mary Lucetta Shumway Thompson. She was the 4th child in a family of 9 children.
Mom enjoyed her childhood, climbing every tree on the block, playing ball, being with family and her many friends.
While in high school, she met a tall, handsome young man who later became her eternal companion. Revere Hansen and Blanche were married in the Salt Lake Temple on September 14, 1933. Four children joined the family. Sherril Gae (Thomas) Pennock, Layton, Utah. Lindsey Revere (Brenda) Hansen, Southington, Connecticut. H. David (Paula) Hansen, Meridian, Idaho. Mary Beth (Jerry) McCombs, Garland, Utah. During their married life they lived in Garland, Logan, and Ogden where Revere worked for the Shell Service Station. In 1949, they moved to Twin Falls, Idaho, opening their own ice cream business. In 1967, they returned to Ogden where Revere worked at the IRS until his retirement at age 75. While in Ogden, they were involved in square dancing with the Quarter Promenaders, where they loved the many friends they made, and the time they spent together.
Following Revere''s death in 1991, Blanche moved to Layton with her daughter Gae and her son- in-law Tom where she was lovingly cared for until her death.
Mom had a deep faith that sustained her throughout the trials in her life- and that faith was a testimony to her posterity as well. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served faithfully in her many callings.
All of her 20 grandchildren received a crocheted afghan and many of her 67 great-grandchildren and all 5 of her great-great-grandchildren received baby shawls. She was happiest when she was sharing this talent or watching sporting events (she was an avid Jazz fan) or spending time with her family.
Mom came into this world with a song in her heart and a love of music that she shared with everyone. Mom has a memory for lyrics of songs from long ago and would sing songs to her little grandchildren as they visited her. She was not formally trained in music herself, but she made sure her children had the opportunity to learn and enjoy the blessings of music in their lives.
She was preceded in death by her loving eternal sweetheart, Revere who has been waiting for her for 15 years. Also preceding her in death are her dear parents, 3 brothers, James Delos, Odell and Blaine, 2 sisters, Beth Thompson Boss and Agnes Thompson Bishop and two great-grandchildren, Chelsey McCombs and Bret McCombs.
She is survived by sisters Melba Wassom, Bountiful, Utah, Laura Kunz, Bountiful Utah, Lola Ruth Anderson, Thatcher, Utah. She is also survived by her four children, their spouses, 20 grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren who lovingly referred to her as "cookie grandma".
The family gives a heartfelt thank you to the hospice workers who lovingly cared for mom.
