Blanche was born September 28, 1924, in Lake Point, Utah. She passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 21, 2024. Her mother was Edna Rachel Young and her stepfather was Carl Theodore Ekenstam. She never knew her biological father in this life.
The first five years of her life were spent living with her maternal grandparents. When Blanche was old enough to begin school, she returned to live with her mother and stepfather. She grew up with three half siblings. Dean, Elaine, and Glen. She has good memories of growing up and playing with her siblings.
Mom attended Toole High School and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She remembers enjoying participating in the school choir and basketball.
She met her first husband Howard Currey (Shorty) in Tooele. He worked for the CCC and also was part of a local band playing the guitar. They were married in Salt Lake City on June 28, 1941. They had two daughters, Linda, and Deanna before he suffered a heart attack and passed away at the young age of 25.
Mom later met Clayton Stratton at the Razzle Dazzle dance hall in Pine canyon. They loved dancing together. They were married on December 16, 1946. Clayton had three children from a previous marriage, Sydney, Lee, and Dennie. Together Blanche and Clayton had four more children together, Ellen, Karen, Deborah, and Alan. As a family, we enjoyed picnics, camping and fishing. We loved cooking outdoors in Dutch ovens and roasting marshmallows around a campfire.
Blanche leaves behind a legacy of nine children and their spouses, 32 grandchildren, 59 great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren. She was loved and will be greatly missed. She will be forever in our hearts.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the staff at the Syracuse Beehive Home and of Cascade Springs Hospice for their tender and loving care in the last years and days of our dear Mother’s life.
