SOUTH OGDEN a€" Boyd William Crompton, 80, our beloved father, husband, grandfather, and uncle, passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at his home in South Ogden following an extended battle with brain cancer.

He was born February 28, 1929 at the Dee Hospital in Ogden, the second of two children born to Charles William and Marguerite Call Crompton. He was reared and educated in Ogden, graduating from Ogden High School and attending Weber State College.

Boyd married his high school sweetheart, the late Dona F. Rees, and they raised two sons together.

He was a lifelong resident of the Ogden/Huntsville area with the exception of several years while he served with the U.S. Air Force when they made their home in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Maine. Boyd also spent two years during the Korean War in Japan with the U.S. Air Force where he was a radar specialist.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 129 in Huntsville, Utah.

Boyd was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Although he pursued other interests, his greatest joy was gardening. He invented many hydroponic devises for growing tomatoes and other vegetables. His tomatoes were legendary. Other interests included remote controlled airplanes, fishing, hunting, woodworking, carpentry and skiing. He was one of the pioneer''s at Snow Basin and skied there when it was nothing but a hill and a rope tow. Dona and Boyd were also fortunate to have traveled to South America to visit their oldest son and his family.

He was employed with Utah Power and Light Company and later Pacific Corp where he retired as an electrical engineer in 1985 after 35 years of service. He received many service awards throughout his long career. Boyd also served on the Ogden Chamber of Commerce and volunteered with Junior Achievement of Utah.

After Dona passed away in 2002, Boyd was very fortunate to have Dorothy Neal Wall, Dona''s best friend, for her compassion and understanding. Their relationship grew and they were married on August 30, 2004. Boyd and Dorothy had five wonderful years together where they were able to travel, garden, and enjoy each other''s company.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends whom he loved so dearly.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy, of South Ogden; one son, Kurtis D. (Tammy) Crompton, Huntsville; daughter-in-law, Astrid Farias Crompton, Santiago, Chile; four grandchildren, Ami and Intai, Santiago; Kamryn and Gavan, Utah.

He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Dr. Richard D. (Terry) Rees, Phoenix, AZ.

Preceding him in death were his wife Dona, son Kyle, sister Joy, and his parents.

The family would like to express their thanks to Care Givers Support Network and Comfort Keepers for their kind and gentle care during this last difficult period.
