Boyd M. Sheffield
OGDEN a" Boyd M. Sheffield, 93, died Thursday, January 20, 2011, at the George E. Wahlen Ogden Veterans Home where on January 26, 2010, he became its first resident.
Boyd was born in Brigham City to William A. and Lillie V. Malmrose Sheffield and lived there for 47 years. He was a World War II veteran who fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded the Bronze Star.
He married Norma Wood in 1937. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Norma preceded him in death in 1974 in San Diego, California. Boyd''s survivors include their five children: William Frank (Susan) Sheffield, Oakdale, MN; Sandra (Dan) Moffet, North Ogden, UT; Shauna (Emil Reisman) Walton, Dana Point, CA; Michael Boyd (Sue) Sheffield, Lemon Grove, CA; Jeanie Peck, Brigham City, UT; 19 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Also surviving is his sister Lillian Westover, Brigham City, UT.
Boyd moved to Ogden following his marriage to Margaret Jensen McEwan on April 19, 1986. Margaret died in 2009. Boyd''s surviving stepdaughters are Marilyn Nunez, Salt Lake City, UT; Kathy (Bill) Freeman, CA; six step-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren.
Boyd''s occupations included Box Elder County Treasurer; President of the Utah Association of County Officials, rural route mail carrier, Brigham City Assistant Postmaster, bookkeeper and grocery store clerk. He was a member of the Jaycees and Junior Chamber of Commerce.
Boyd was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving as Executive Secretary, High Priest Group Leader, Sunday School teacher, Home Teacher, and an Ordinance Worker in the Ogden and Jordan River temples.
He was known and loved for his cheerful spirit, generosity, and kindness. He dedicated his life to helping and serving others.
Preceding Boyd in death were his parents, his brothers Earl and Glen Sheffield, and his brothers-in-law, Bill Wood and Ralph Westover.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 29 at 1 p.m. at Lindquist''s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 North Washington Blvd.
Family will meet with friends at the mortuary on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
Interment, Brigham City Cemetery.
