Boyd Dean Sullivan

1934 - 2016

Boyd Dean Sullivan passed away peacefully on Friday, October 21, 2016 at his home.  He was born in Huntington, Utah, on February 24, 1934, son of John L Sullivan and Winifred Knight.  He was married November 25, 1953 to Valeen Wallace in the Salt Lake Temple.  He was a devoted husband and father and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He served in many callings including two missions.  After serving a mission to Vietnam he taught English and history to the Vietnamese community in Salt Lake City helping over 300 people to earn their US citizenship.

Boyd will be remembered for his extraordinary generosity and willingness to help others in any way possible.  He also demonstrated an un-tiring work ethic and taught by example the value of hard work and responsibility.  He was the first in his family to earn a college degree and was recognized for his outstanding work as an internal auditor at the IRS where he retired after 35 years of service.  Through his efforts and example, he and Valeen helped their children earn college degrees and achieve successful careers.  His hobbies included: painting, puzzles, genealogy, fishing, hunting, camping, and travel.  Many will also remember Boyd for his near-death experience while snowmobiling on Monte Cristo over 22 years ago.

Boyd is survived by the love of his life and wife of 62 years Valeen and their children Stan (Kaylene) Sullivan, Cheryl (Blaine) Bryner, Carol (Robert) Adams, Mike (Colleen) Sullivan, as well as Leroy Chavez, Marilyn Chavez, Hien (Thi) Tran, Loan Kim (Brady) Clinton, and Hung (Linh) Ngo, 30 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.  Also his brothers, Tim Warren, Richie Conklin, and sisters, Ruth Aders, Marie Skinner, Lynne Green, Linda Benson, Karen Colabatistto, Loretta Sullivan, and Cheryl Poloso.

He was preceded in death by his father John L. Sullivan, mother Winifred Knight, brothers, Elvin Warren, Melvin Warren, Doyle Warren, Marvin Warren, Johnny Sullivan, and Joey Sullivan, sisters, Betty Wortley, Mary Jo Kelly, and Linda Sullivan, grandson Jeff Adams and great-grandson Charles Perry.  Sadly, his sister-in-law Dixie Warren also passed away on the same day as Boyd.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Valley View Stake Center, 1589 East Gentile in Layton.  Friends may visit family Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
