SYRACUSE-Boyd T Thurgood, 87, husband, father, grand-father, great-grandfather, friend and patriot returned to his Father in Heaven on Thursday, August 30, 2018 surrounded by his loved ones.

Dad was born April 25, 1931 to Therin and LeOra Harris Thurgood in Syracuse, Utah.  He attended Davis High School.  At the age of 17 he enlisted in the Army and served in the Korean War.  Dad was proud to be a veteran.  After his military service he worked at DDO.  He retired from Hill AFB in 1989 as the Directorate of Maintenance.

On October 8, 1954 Dad married our mom, Nancy Lou Geddes.  They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on June 4, 1959.  Together they had five children.  Dad served faithfully in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints including Young Men’s President, High Council, and Bishop of the Syracuse Third Ward.  Nancy preceded him in death in 1995.  On June 24, 1997 he married Caroll Bodily.  Together they served three missions.  They enjoyed travelling and wintering in Saint George.

Dad served as mayor of Syracuse from 1973 to 1985 and was instrumental in the development of the secondary water system.  He resided in his beloved Syracuse his entire life.  He found joy in working in his garden and yard.  He loved his family.

He was preceded in death by his wife Nancy, son Louis Gayle, his parents, brothers, Duane and DeLore and sister Beulah Cook.  He is survived by his children, Barry and Connie Thurgood, Robin Thurgood, Bart Thurgood, Stephanie and Hal Schofield, Curtis and Becky Thurgood, Chris and Michelle Bodily and Cory and Katie Bodily.  He is also survived by his 18 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren with two on the way.

As a family, we would like to thank Caroll for her love and service to Dad.  We also appreciate the care of Sara and Sydney from Legacy Hospice.

Funeral services will be held Thursday September 6, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Syracuse 3rd Ward Chapel, 1000 W. 2679 S.  Syracuse, Utah.  Friends may visit with family Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Rd in Layton and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at church.  Interment, Syracuse City Cemetery.
