Brenda Foy Birt
SOUTH WEBER – Our loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Brenda Foy Birt, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 9, 2009 with her family by her side following a long fight with scleroderma.
She was born December 5, 1945 in Durham, North Carolina, to Percy Lee and Virginia Foy. She graduated from Southern High School and later moved to Utah where she worked for the Internal Revenue Service.
Brenda married Marvin William Birt on December 21, 1972. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple.
Brenda was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as a pianist, Stake Relief Society Secretary and counselor in the Ward Relief Society. She had a great love of music and was a beautiful pianist who loved playing for church choirs, groups or soloists.
She was always busy quilting, sewing, and canning and made the best berry cobblers around. Brenda had a great zeal for doing genealogy and finding that long lost cousin or great-great-grandmother. She had a zest for life and loved traveling and making new friends. Brenda and Marvin wintered in Yuma, Arizona where there was always a new friend to meet. Brenda’s greatest love was her grandchildren and going to see her sisters in North Carolina.
She is survived by her husband, Marvin, son, Darrell (Ubelia) Birt, stepson, Greg (Josie) Birt, stepdaughters, Kay (Tim) Cahalane, Laurie (Charles) Maxon, Tracie (Kerry) Wayne, 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are three sisters, Virginia Scoggins, Betty Douglas, and Patricia (James) Hart.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Pioneer Ward Chapel, 6660 South 1775 East in Uintah.
